Chaos Theory

What Jack Says...

It is extremely uncharacteristic of me to watch this many romances so I will be sure to stop that.

This is the story of man that is extremely organized and has his life scheduled down to the minute. His wife decides to trick him and sets the clock forward 10 minutes changing their lives completely.

I really only watched this movie because of the cast. It stars Ryan Reynold, Emily Mortimer, Stewart Townsend, and Sarah Chalke. Pretty good cast for a pretty good movie. I think that it is pretty awesome that Ryan Reynolds can play a young or older man and still make it believable. He is actually more then a hot bod so that is nice.

I liked this movie. It was cut and dry entertainment and sometimes you just need that. No frills.

I give this one a 6.

When in Rome

What Jack Says...

Wow, I hate this movie cover? This movie cover alone made me not want to see this movie. I don't really like anyone in this movie, but somehow I felt compelled to watch it.

This was not as good as Leap Year, but I have seen worse romantic comedies. This is another one that Hari will enjoy napping through. Watch the beginning, nod off and wake up for the end because it isn't terrible. Yep, that sounds like a good plan to me.

I give it a 5

Sex and the City 2

What Jack Says...

This was a fucked up piece of shit of a movie. I won't go into too much detail, but it might be the worst movie ever. I can't think of anything worse right off the top of my head so let's just say it was. I wish I had something more witty to say, but I am so emotionally wounded by it's badness that I'm drawing a blank.

I'm only giving this a 2 because I didn't shut it off. You know what, screw that you still get a 1.

Prom Wars: Love Is a Battlefield

What Jack Says...

I hate movies like this because they have all the necessary pieces to make them good and they just aren't. It is frustrating.
This is the story of two boys schools that have to compete for the right to take the girls from the only girls school to prom. See? Doesn't that sound like a good movie?

I really only wanted to watch this because of Alia Shawkat because I love her. She was great on Arrested Development as Maybe and I loved her in Whip It as Pash. She is totally my new Kat Dennings from Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. I love them both because they are real girls with real body issues and they don't hide them. I think that that the script worked against Alia in this movie and I don't judge her for it. The rest of the movie was full of nobodies that aren't worth talking about.

I give this one a 3. Boooooooring.

The Great Buck Howard

What Jack Says...

I had to ask Hari if I was a weirdo because I think that Colin Hanks is sexy. The answer is no and that is awesome. I feel the same way about his dad Tom so I guess it was to be expected.

I liked this movie. Colin Hanks plays a student who leaves law school to become the traveling assistant to a washed up mentalist played by John Malkovich. Along the way the meet Emily Blunt and that is all she wrote. This movie is really basic, but I think that the characters make it work. Everyone is honest and they could be people from your hometown or that you already know. It was released was a few years back and it was a good start for Emily Blunt and Colin Hanks.

I give this one a 7. Pretty good.

Spread

What Jack Says...

This is the story of a young man that has nothing to offer other then his looks. He has no job, no commitments, and he hops from one rich woman to the next without a care in the world.

Basically, this movie is just Ashton Kutcher and Anne Heche having sex constantly. Yep, that's pretty much it. The sex scenes are good and they both have great bods so yeah. The movie went absolutely nowhere and I saw the end coming before it even began.

The nudity was good but there was no substance. I give this one a 4

Leap Year

What Jack Says...

This is the story of a girl who decides to go to surprise her boyfriend in Ireland with a wedding proposal on a particular day of the year that has tradition. Along the way she runs into some obstacles and she meets a man to help her get through them.

I really didn't want to see this movie and that is probably because I still haven't fully forgiven Amy Adams for Julie & Julia. I am surprised to say that I think that we have made up and I can start liking her movies again because of this one.

I also did not know that Matthew Goode was the romantic lead in this movie and if I had I would have seen it much sooner. I loved him so hard in Chasing Liberty that it hurt. Mandy Moore and Matthew Goode together was amazing and his chemistry with Amy Adams was pretty solid too.

This movie was just fun and romantic and that is all. It didn't need to be anything else.

I give this a 7

Coco Before Chanel

What Jack Says...

I think the title lets you know what the movie is about, so I will move on. I love Audrey Tautou and I love her movies. I think it is a crying shame that Americans really only got a dose of her in The Davinci Code because that movie was horrible. In no way does that represent the amazing range she has as an actress.

This movie was everything I hoped it would be. I don't think I have ever seen a bad french movie though I haven't seen many. Either they are all good or I am just good a picking them. This is a wonderful story about love, loss and success and I would watch it again.

I give this an 8

Post Grad

What Jack Says...

I don't know why I like Alexis Bledel, but I do. Maybe it is because I think that she would have made a much better Bella for the Twilight movies. Sorry, Kristen Stewart. I still love you above all others.

This movie was OK, but not great. I certainly won't watch it again, but the subject matter was honest. It is about a girl who graduates at the top of her class from college and realized that the jobs don't just appear because you have a degree. I would watch it if you are bored, but it won't complete your life or anything. This will be a good one for Hari to nap through.

I give this a 5

Push

What Jack Says...

Ugh, If it weren't for Dakotah Fanning I wouldn't have watched this movie at all. The concept was there, but it was never fully realized. The opening sequence was pretty cool and the set up the whole movie in the credits. As I was watching it I was thinking "this is an interesting way to set up the characters" and then I realized this just gave the director and writer more time to jack off in the middle of the movie. They completely lost the audience about an hour and ten minutes in because they were too busy jacking off. Boo.

There is this one actress in this movie named Camilla Belle and I totally hate her. She is the new Rachel Weisz. Camilla Belle must take the projects that Selma Blair turns down. They are bastically the same person except Selma can actually act. Give it up Camilla, you suck.

Another problem I have is that ever one seems to be all balls crazy about this Christ Evans guy and I just don't get it. Yeah, sure he has a nice bod, but he has no ass at all and chicken legs. Let's hope they CGI him some legs in Captain America.

Boo I give this one a 4

Black Swan

What Jack Says...

Oh, Darran Aronofsky how much do I love the? Thank you for directing this fabulous piece of cinema as well as well as The Wrestler. I sort of want to forget that Requiem For a Dream ever happened, but it did change my life. Oh, and I have already forgotten that you made you The Fountain. Boy oh boy was that a messed up piece of shit.

Anyway, back to Black Swan. Loved it. Yep, that's all you need to know. I just knew this was the "Natalie Portman Ballerina Movie" going in, but it was oh so much more. She must have had to hit rock bottom to even think about doing this movie. I have always been a big fan of Natalie Portman, but now I am a big fan of Natalie Portman the actress. If she doesn't get an Oscar nomination and a win this year I will faint.

Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel held their own too so bravo for that! Now for what everyone wants to hear, how was the girl on girl? It was pretty good. Now here is why. You have to see the events building up to this point to truly appreciate why it is there at all. It isn't just two chicks that randomly meet and go down on one another. Sorry, guys. There is purpose for everything that is done in this film and that is why it works. The last 30 minutes of this movie are so scandalous I actually gasped out loud in the theatre. Jesus Christ! This movie has to have the best climax ever.

Loved it. I need not say more.

Without a doubt this one gets a 10.

The Girl Who Played With Fire

What Jack Says...

This movie is the sequel to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I sorta kinda, but not really liked that one and I liked this instalment much better. I liked the overall subject matter in this one much better.

I will say that the character Lizbeth Salander, played by Noomi Rapace, is one of the best written female protagonists I have ever seen. She is such a strong independent woman and she doesn't take any one's shit. I like that in a woman.

I would say skip the first movie and just watch this one, but you just can't. You would be so utterly lost that you wouldn't want to finish the movie. I will let you know when I see the third one if together they are a trilogy worth watching at all.

I give this one a 7.

True Grit

What Jack Says...

As you have probably noticed, this is the first review I have done for a western. That is mostly because I don't like westerns. Yes, I will give it up for Wyatt Earp and Tombstone, but that is about it. If I want the west I will just look out my window.

However, this movie was fantastic. I have heard that the original is not all that great and that the Coen brothers had to strip this down to the bone and rewrite it completely. I don't think I would have liked this movie at all if it were not for the script. I love Jeff Bridges so that was an easy sell for me, but I was sceptical about Matt Damon. I don't dislike him, but I am not a huge fan. I have always seen him as just a pretty face and otherwise not such a great actor. I was completely put in my place with his portrayal of the character LaBeouf. I think now that he is getting older I can take him more seriously and he looks way hot as a dirty cowboy.

The pacing of the movie was great, the acting was phenomenal and it was just an all around exciting movie. I was a little let down by the ending, but I don't know what I wanted instead. I guess I don't know how to fix it so I won't bitch.

I give this one an 8.

Good Hair

What Jack Says...

I love hair and I love Chris Rock so I got the best of both worlds with this movie. Chris Rock basically tells the story of black people and their struggle to achieve "The Good Hair" also known as white hair. I don't think us white people have any concept of what black people have to go through just to make their hair presentable. I learned a slight amount in beauty school, but it is a challenge everyday for black people and I say kudos to you.

The use of synthetic and real hair is a multi million dollar industry. Chris Rock takes you all over the globe and shows where we get it and how it gets on people's heads. This is certainly a documentary style movie, but it funny just the same. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone because it will blow your mind.

I give this an 8

Tangled

What Jack Says...

Disney has failed me time and time again, but I am happy to say that Disney surprised me this time. I didn't really have any expectation of this movie going in, but I don't think it would have mattered either way. I loved this movie. Yes, you heard me right, I loved it. I haven't loved a Disney movie this much since Nemo and this is the best Princess movie since Beauty and the Beast.

Mandy Moore is amazing and find me something you don't absolutely love her in. The casting for this movie was spot on all the way around. The songs were so good and these are Little Mermaid caliber songs so, that is says a lot. The animation was out of this world and the story was not just your same old Repunzel story. I suggest not only families but everyone see this movie. It will brighten your day and your spirits.

I give this one a 10. Loved it hard.
