You Can Count on Me

Let's start the reviewing with the movie I watched just a few hours ago. You Can Count on Me stars Laura Linney, Mark Ruffalo and Rory Culkin. When this movie came out 10 years ago I didn't think much of it. I actually thought it was one of the worst movies I had ever seen. I have now come to realize that in the past decade I have seen my fair share of bad movies and I am happy to say that I can take this one off the list. I don't know if it is that I am older and more mature or if there is just so much crap out now that this one looks like an A+.

When I originally saw this movie I was working at our local movie theater. Back then I would watch just about anything simply because it was free. The most impressive thing about this movie is that it was the first Oscar nomination for Laura Linney and it was really the firt time Mark Ruffalo came on the scene. Both of their performances were quality and the subject matter was honest.

It is basically the story of a single mom who lives in a small town and she has a young son. When Linney and her brother (Ruffalo)are young, their parents die in a car crash. From then on she always feels as if she needs to take care of her brother. Ruffalo's character isn't the most stable so he goes to live with his sister and his nephew for a while. The story sounds sort of dull when you put it that way, but there are a few twists and turns that make this movie certainly worth watching. Also, Mark Ruffalo was a mere 32 years old when this came out and he was smokin hot. He looks amazing even now and he just keeps getting better.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I give this one a 6.
